Gluten-free, sweet and savory snack board for two.

Long before I was married.

Way before I was old enough to date.

I have always loved Valentine’s Day.

Mostly because it is also my younger sister’s birthday. And my she was a premie baby. She came two months early. And her struggle as an infant was turbulent. So growing up, Valentine’s Day was a really big deal in our house. It was a day we celebrated love and triumph. And my sister. And those memories have carried with me into adulthood.

For Valentine’s Day or any special occasion, or even just date night in for that matter, Chris and I love to make snack boards. Snack boards for two you guys! They’re a meal in itself. They’re a combination of a charcuterie board and a dessert board. They’re literally rule-less and limitless. You can put whatever you want on them. And because of this, they’re easy to throw together. They also feel fancy and fun.

A snack board for two pairs perfectly with a glass of wine. Or a dark beer like a stout or porter. They’re meant to be eaten snuggling on the couch in your stretchy pants or on a picnic blanket outdoors with your bare feet in the grass. Basically anywhere but the dining table.

Crunchmaster gluten-free crackers asked me to put together my favorite snack board for two for Valentine’s Day. This one has both sweet and savory elements. The blood oranges aren’t too sweet, but act as a great palate cleanser. The olive oil whipped ricotta can be eaten alone on a cracker with an extra drizzle of olive oil or layered with beet berry sauce. Because that’s the stuff that dreams are made of.

Snack boards for two are also great for best friends. You know? xx

A good snack board is balanced with salty and savory and sweet. Some protein, some sugar, and a good glass of wine. I suggest the following, but feel free to use this an inspiration to create your ideal board. Olives and a hard cheese like grana padano or parmesan would be great additions.
Ingredients
  • crackers of choice
  • salted walnuts, or nut of choice
  • blood oranges, or citrus of choice
  • Hibiscus Chocolate Bark with Rose + Cinnamon, or chocolate of choice
  • Olive Oil Whipped Ricotta Bites {see below}
Instructions
  1. Ensemble your ingredients on a board or in a tray like I have.
  2. Pour yourself and a loved one a glass of wine.
  3. Be in the moment. Sip, share and snack.

I busted out some whipped ricotta for the first time this summer when I was making crostini, and it’s the dreamiest. Love this little board for the two of you — and your sweet anecdote about your sister. She’s lucky to have ya!

I love your little sister v-day story. It’s a beautiful connection which makes the day that much more special. We too are all about a good date night in with a snack board. I’ve never really added a sweet component to our cracker mix, but you’ve inspired me.

Oh wow I love that Valentine’s Day has so much special and important meaning to your and your family. And I’ve actually never made a cheeseboard, but you’ve inspired me to get my non-dining table snacking board going on! Such stunning photos.
