It’s here – Happy First Day of Spring everyone! What a relief, I mean finally, now we can relish in the longer days + warm breeze. To celebrate I’ve blended up one of my favorite spring greens, sorrel along with its friend lemon and a few other superfoods.
I posted some beautiful red sorrel on my Instagram page last week and you guys loved it up, so I know I have some sorrel fans out there! Sorrel has a remarkably bright and citrusy flavor, it is perfect for smoothies, salads and juices.
You can find sorrel at your local farmers’ markets, in your CSA boxes and if you’re lucky at the grocer. If you’ve never used sorrel before, keep your eye out for it, because once you have your first taste you will fall in love, I promise.
Lemony Green Sorrel Smoothie
This makes one perfect smoothie serving.
- 2 cups *sorrel, I used both green + red sorrel, any variety will do
- juice + zest from 1/2 lemon
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 banana
- 1 cup of liquid, I used 1/2 cup almond milk + 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- handful of ice
Blend all of the ingredients until they’re smooth; sip, enjoy + relax.
You don’t need a fancy blender to make delicious smoothies, I made this recipe in my Bella Blender.
*If you can’t find sorrel, spinach + an extra tablespoon of lemon is a great substitute.
