Vegan Matcha Milkshakes

Vegan Matcha Milkshakes | @withfoodandlove

Vegan milkshakes.

Vegan matcha milkshakes!

I’m so excited about this. But first…

Last weekend was my two year {two years!!} wedding anniversary and my love and I were supposed to be celebrating in the desert. We had the whole tripped planned out, lots of taco eating and margarita drinking was gonna go down. We were desperate to soak in some sunny rays – all week long we were sooo looking forward to this little long weekend vacay. But then the Midwest weather was like, nope, not gonna happen. We were totally socked in with ice and snow – we weren’t going anywhere. Our hopes and dreams were crushed. So we did what any other self-respecting couple would do and we ate and drank ourselves happy, obviously.

Saturday morning we made ourselves a brunch at home complete with old bay roasted potatoes and eggs and smoothies and blackberries {out of season and don’t care, best splurge ever}. Then later that night we had a super-luxe dinner out, lots of martinis and pomme frites happenend and oh man, so good. On Sunday we threw ourselves an Oscar party with champagne and cheese and stuffed artichokes {a top-secret family recipe that I should really share with you guys}. Then on Monday we did more eating and drinking and lounging and it felt really great to just relax for a few days. But now, I’m kinda having one of those weeks where every day feels like Monday. You know a little groggy, a little lackadaisical, a little lackluster.

Then I was like – let’s make milkshakes. These ‘milk’shakes are powered with lots of coconut cream, a small handful of greens {mostly for color + totally not detectable}, matcha and protein powder from Sprout Living. As a health coach and natural foods lover, there aren’t many protein powders I can endorse. I rarely if at all use them, but when I stumble upon a brand that is doing it right, I’m totally into it.

Sprout Living products are way legit and also they taste amazing you guys. I’ve had some products similar to theirs, where I loved the ingredient list, but I didn’t really love the taste. All things considered, this is my favorite protein powder hands down. Sprout Living products are raw, vegan and non-GMO. Gluten, soy and nut free. And no artificial anything, ever.

One of you lucky ducks is going to win all of the Sprout Living awesomeness:

{1} 16 oz bag of Epic Protein Vanilla Lucuma Epic Protein Powder
Sampling of Epic Protein flavors (Original, Chocolate Maca, Vanilla Lucuma and Green Kingdom)
{1} Sprout Living Shaker Jar
{1} Sprout Living Eco Tote Bag

To enter leave me a comment below why you want to win this awesome product pack. Contest is open until noon CT on March 5th; winner will be notified via email.

Vegan Matcha Milkshakes
prep time
make time
total time
Although there are some preservatives in it, I often use Trader Joe's coconut cream in this recipe because it comes out perfect each time. If you are not using TJ's cream, refrigerate a can of full-fat coconut milk for at least 4 hours. Scoop out the cream that has risen to the top and discard the liquid on the bottom {or save it for a smoothie}. The spinach in this recipe is for color, the taste is undetected. You could skip it altogether for a paler green shade.
Makes: 2
  • 1 cup coconut cream
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 teaspoon matcha
  • 2 handfuls baby spinach
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • handful ice
  • 1 tablespoon high-quality vanilla protein powder {optional}
  1. Place all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and serve with an additional dollop of coconut cream and sprinkle of matcha.

I too rarely used protein powders before because they seemed “unnatural”. But after switching my workout regimen to a more intense program, my sore muscles called for way more protein than my plant based diet offered. I have tried 5-6 different brands and quit my search after the last brand had a recall for a contamination and gave me food poisoning. I love how sprout living uses superfoods like maca which I regularly use. Please restore my faith in vegan protein powders and let me try some :)

I would love to win! The timing of this post is perfect. My son loves bodybuilding and I have been trying to locate a healthy protein powder for him. It is so strange to me that there is so much unhealthy eating in the bodybuilding crowd….talk about oxymoron! Thank you for the recipe too!!

I’d really love to win this package. As I have no clue what’s the better protein shake out among the hundreds on the shelf, that are loaded with all kinds of stuff I don’t know. I’ve been becoming more active with running my first 5K, and attending spinning classes and etc. These products are just what I need!!

Would love to win this amazing package! My wife inspired (strong-armed) me into doing the Clean Gut diet recently, and I (we) felt amazing at the end of 3 weeks. Well, that ended a couple of weeks ago and we’re kinda sliding right back into the old bad eating habits. These Sprout Living products sound amazing, and like a great way to incorporate tasty GOOD things into our typical daily diets. PS LOVE your blog! Thank you!

I’ve always avoided protein powders because of their ingredient lists, and even the “clean” options I’ve found have tasted pretty awful. I’m SO curious to try out Sprout Living since you have such good things to say about it’s taste. I love that this would be an option for both me (and my dietary needs/preferences) and my husband.

I also love the look of this smoothie! Matcha shakes sound like the perfect way to shake off the blahs :) Happy anniversary!

I love matcha… this recipe looks delicious! I would love to win, because I have a handful of food allergies & intolerances so a very limited diet, so I am always looking for nutritious ways to add protein. Can’t wait to try these Sprout Living products (so excited that I can actually eat them!) – the flavors sound absolutely amazing! Thanks!

dang midwest weather! sorry you had to miss your trip south, but sounds like you had a relaxing and delicious weekend at home celebrating your love. And these milkshakes look creamy, dreamy. Wow, talk about an awesome company. I just checked out everything on the Sprout Living website (and I followed them on Instagarm) and I’m so into their philosophy and thankful for companies making truthful, delicious products. I have been nervous to introduce protein powders because i can’t find any dairy-free ones (which I now am as I’m on a quest to heal my gut & autoimmune issues) that I trust, but I think you just introduced me to the answer. It would be great to try them. Thanks for the post!

I was sitting at my computer drinking my morning lemon water (thank you Sherrie for introducing me to that) pondering what to eat for breakfast this morning. And then this email pops up in my inbox. I had just purchased some matcha and was wondering what to do with it, had some trader joe’s coconut cream in my cabinet and so I made it. And boy was it yummy…. and filling… and healthy. I am going to have to play with variations on this recipe as a breakfast option. I have been struggling to find a protein powder that does not hurt my tummy…. I am sensitive to inulin (which is surprisingly in a lot of organic / all natural products) and any kind of “gum” (guar, xanthan). Do you know if the sprout products have any inulin or gums in their product? I followed them on facebook to learn more……

I would love to win this because I’m always in search for a wholesome plant based protein powder. I’m a full time college student and work a ton, so I need quick/nutrient-packed meals! Protein powder can get expensive, but well worth it if it’s a good one. :)

I am new to protein powders and would love to find one my husband and I both like. He is recovering from tongue caner surgery and radiation and has lost quite a bit of weight. It is still hard for him to eat, but does make smoothies for the am go to meal. We grow our own blueberries and would love to combine them with this!

I’d love to win this amazing bunch of products! I’m also very picky when it comes to protein powders, and as a healthy food lover it is sometimes hard to find a good quality brand in the market. Also, their flavors are outta this world! Haven’t seen another brand with these specific flavoring combos. The tote bad would be great for the weekend fair, and the shaker bottle would save my life at the gym :)

I’d really love to win this. I have Fibromyalgia, RA and Latent TB eating healthy is a big part to helping control it. Unfortunately it’s also very expensive and with five children I have to budget wisely. I’d love to the protein powder and matcha, i’ve never heard of it before. I’d like to see how my body reacts to them. Crossing my fingers and thank you for the opportunity!

I love matcha & think this recipe looks amazing! I love the addition of the coconut cream on top, although my coconut cream never comes out very good…I’ll have to try the Trader Joes version! We have just recently arrived home after a 10- month journey around the world (check out our blog…itbeganinaballoon.com) and I am trying to get back on track eating healthy. I have never been a fan of protein powders, especially plant based protein powders. I really haven’t found one that I love (and I’m always worried about the manufacturing, preservatives, additives) or that I think tastes good. But it would be great to find one that I felt good about and enjoyed the taste! Therefore, I would love to try the Sprout Living protein powder…especially chocolate maca!
