Matcha is everywhere right now.

But I’m really not mad about it.

Because matcha is delicious.

Especially in vegan milkshake shakes.

More about these babes, soon.

But first.

In case you don’t know what matcha is.

Matcha is, simply put, powdered green tea leaves. A powder packed with phytonutrients that bring a host of health benefits. Matcha has been said to aid in combat free radicals, assist in weight loss, offer immune system support and bring you a cleaner buzz.

Yeah that’s right. A cleaner buzz. That’s because matcha contains L-theanine, a unique amino acid that assists in boosting alpha waves in the brain. And these alpha waves promote a certain sense of calm and mental clarity. So it’s no coincidence that lots of people are trading in their cup of coffee for a matcha latte.

Matcha is green tea’s grassier, earthier sister. It’s flavor is strong but mellow. Earthy, but subtly sweet and pleasant. But oddly enough, I’m not super into matcha lattes. I have them on occasion, but typically I like my matcha blended into smoothies or in frozen treats like ice cream or these roasted blueberry matcha popsicles.

So. What’s up with these vegan matcha milkshake shakes? Okay, so here’s the thing. They clearly not a milkshake. They don’t contain any dairy. And they don’t contain any ice cream. But they are full of antioxidants and ingredients that do emit total milkshake vibes. They’re cold and creamy like a milkshake but healthy enough to probably just be called a shake.

These vegan matcha milkshake shakes use matcha and vanilla protein powder {this is my favorite} for a base flavor. Coconut oil and raw zucchini for texture. Coconut oil is a must. It helps create a shake-like structure. And spinach for color. They are healthy enough for breakfast or for renewal after a workout. And indulgent enough for a dessert or sweet snack.

Vegan Matcha Milkshake Shakes

Prep Time 5 mins
Cook Time 1 min
Total Time 6 mins
Serves 2 shakes

These shakes are best made and drank right away.

MACROS PER SHAKE: 5 grams net carbs, 21 grams of fat, 5 grams of fiber, 12 grams of protein

Ingredients

Directions

Place all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend on low. Increase the speed as ingredients start to loosen.

Divide into 2 or 3 glasses and sprinkle with additional matcha to garnish.

Serve and drink cold.

Recipe Notes

I use Garden of Life Meal Replacement which is organic, non-GMO, packed with nutrients, vegan, low-carb and keto-friendly. But you can use whichever protein powder works for you. I like to use a refined coconut oil that is odorless and tasteless. Coconut oil is imperative here for texture and body.

I was sitting at my computer drinking my morning lemon water (thank you Sherrie for introducing me to that) pondering what to eat for breakfast this morning. And then this email pops up in my inbox. I had just purchased some matcha and was wondering what to do with it. Thank you!

This is such a cool recipe. I just brought some matcha and wasn’t sure how to use it. This shake is definitely my kind of drink and I think the perfect way to introduce this superfood into my diet. Thanks so much.
