Clean Program Review + a golden mango smoothie!

Clean Program review and a vegan golden mango smoothie.
My Clean Program Review + my favorite golden smoothie! | Dr. Junger's 21 Day Clean Program is revolutionary and life-changing. A hearty cleanse where you eat nutrient-dense food, feel amazing and full.

Twenty-one days without
coffee
alcohol
sugar
dairy
eggs
gluten
corn
oats
nightshades
was tough, but we did it.

Here is my very honest 21 Day Clean Program review.

Week One: Challenge Accepted

My husband and I have gotten very relaxed since moving to the Midwest. We stray from our mostly plant-based diet more than we’d like to admit. We no longer walk everywhere because you can’t get to everything by foot. And turn to wine to wind down as a nearly everyday habit. As a result, we both have gained weight, lost energy and become somewhat complacent, albeit disgruntled.

We needed to reset. We needed something to motivate us back to how we felt when we got married and were in the best shape of our lives, inside and out. The Clean Program seemed like the perfect thing to do this. A strict regimen of supplements with a shake for breakfast, a hearty Clean Program approved lunch and a shake for dinner.

The first seven days was hard but novel. The first half of the week was challenging because the detox symptoms {headaches, fatigue, skin breakouts, irritability} were real. But the journey had just begun and we were feeling inspired to do the work.

Week Two: Unequivocally The Hardest

For me, week two was a nightmare. I wanted to quit every single day. I dreamt of coffee and eggs 24/7. And although my detox symptoms subsided and I had more energy, I hadn’t lost any weight. And I felt frustrated. And deprived. I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Week Three: The Light At The End Of The Tunnel

When week three started I was down five pounds, which seemed to happen overnight. I felt some deprivation relief. Perhaps because I knew the end was near. I continued to dream about coffee and eggs and solid food for dinner until about day eighteen. And then all of the sudden those cravings went away completely. Like a light switch. I no longer craved coffee or eggs and started looking forward to my morning and evening shakes.

I don’t know what got into me but I felt scared to stop. I didn’t want to get back to my previous routine. And now that it’s been a few days since we ended the Clean Program and we’ve had a few cups of coffee and eggs and a single glass of wine, we’re still eating off the approved food list. And we don’t plan on changing that anytime soon.

My husband loved the way he felt the entire program. He won the Best Attitude award. His sleep improved starting on night one. He said he’s getting the best sleep of his life and overall it’s the best he’s ever felt. My experience was a little more rocky. So, I won the Most Determination award. Which is really just a nice way of saying worst attitude award. My occasional heartburn {presumably from too much coffee, tomatoes and red wine} is nonexistent. And I think I discovered a dairy intolerance, which is NBD. And we dropped fifteen pounds combined – just what we needed to kickstart some necessary weight loss.

So there you have it. My Clean Program review. Feel free to ask more questions in the comments of the post. There is a lot of ground to cover and I’m more than happy to answer anything that I may have missed.

And, here are some 21 Day Clean Program approved recipes to keep you going!

And last but not least, this golden mango smoothie! I drank this nearly every single morning. I went from a morning routine of eggs, gluten-free toast and an americano with cream to craving this antioxidant power-packed smoothie. A combination of clean vanilla protein powder, frozen mango a special blend of immunity boosting, inflammation conquering spices. Like turmeric, ginger and cinnamon.

Golden Mango Smoothie

Prep Time 1 min
Cook Time 1 min
Total Time 2 mins
Serves 1 smoothie     adjust servings

Ingredients

  • 1 Vanilla Cleanse Shake packet, optional {see notes}
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 1/4 cup raw cashews
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 5 drops liquid stevia, optional

Instructions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and process until very smooth.

Recipe Notes

1 - 2 tablespoons of your favorite vanilla protein powder will work in place of the Vanilla Cleanse Shake packet. You could also forgo it altogether. I really love mango in my smoothie because it creates a creamy texture without using bananas. I purchase frozen mango year-round from Trader Joe's.

My 21 Day Clean Program review and thoughts on this revolutionary and life-changing cleanse. A hearty cleanse where you eat lots of food and feel full.

Thank you for sharing your cleanse. I am wondering if you’d do a month long cleanse, like you did without the said products. A daily check in, we follow along, try all your recipes and support each other. Would that work? Maybe something on Facebook as well.

p.s. What marine collagen do you recommend? I’m vegan, but need it for hair, skin and nails I believe.

Hi Danielle, I’m so happy that my cleanse experience has motivated you to want to give something similar a try. As a former health I no longer lead support groups, but I would encourage you to start your own. I’m happy to continue supporting you with clean recipes. I highly recommend Vital Proteins – they have the best marine collagen. All the best, and good health to you! xx
